City businessman and second-hand car dealer Joseph Kairo Wambui, popularly known as Khalif Kairo, has been granted a Ksh2 million cash bail after being charged with failing to honor car sale agreements. Despite the court's decision, Kairo remains in remand as he attempts to raise the required bail amount. He faces allegations of obtaining substantial sums from clients without delivering the promised vehicles. For instance, one client reportedly paid Ksh2.98 million to Kairo's company, Kai & Karo Limited, for a vehicle that was never delivered. Another client alleges paying Ksh2.1 million for a Honda Vezel Hybrid from Japan, which also was not received.

Kairo's legal team, led by lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, has denied claims that he intends to flee Kenya if released on bail. They argue that the prosecution has not provided compelling reasons to justify denying him bail.
This is not the first time Kairo has faced legal challenges related to his car dealership business. In January 2025, he was arrested and charged with obtaining Ksh3 million from a client under the pretense of importing a Volkswagen Tiguan from Japan, a vehicle that was never delivered. Unable to raise the initial cash bail, the court granted him a personal bond, allowing for his release.
As Kairo continues to seek funds to meet his current bail conditions, he remains in custody, highlighting the ongoing legal and financial challenges he faces amid multiple fraud allegations.
